Aleppo has always been more than a city of trade. For generations, it has been…

New Developments Across Aleppo
Despite the many challenges families in Aleppo continue to face, there have been several encouraging developments across the city in recent weeks. From improvements in basic services to new housing and community initiatives, small but meaningful steps are helping restore stability and hope.
Improved Electricity Supply
In early May 2026, residents across Aleppo began experiencing longer electricity supply hours after major maintenance work was completed at the Aleppo Thermal Power Plant. Authorities announced that the plant’s output increased to around 400 megawatts, helping ease pressure on the city’s struggling power network.
While electricity remains inconsistent and costly for many businesses and families, these improvements are already making daily life a little easier for thousands of people.

New “Zero Tent” Housing Initiative
Aleppo’s governor recently announced the launch of the “Zero Tent” Project, an initiative focused on helping families move out of temporary shelters and into safer, more stable housing.
The project is especially important for communities still recovering from the earthquake and years of conflict. Local officials also confirmed progress on reconstruction projects under the “Aleppo is the Best” campaign, with implementation expected to begin soon in several affected areas.
For many displaced families, access to secure housing represents more than shelter — it is a step toward rebuilding normal life.
Community Efforts to Support Vulnerable Families
Local organizations and institutions are also working to address growing social challenges in the city. Aleppo University, together with the Directorate of Social Affairs, recently hosted a workshop focused on the rise in street begging and how to better support vulnerable families.
Discussions centered on long-term solutions, including family assistance programs, community support, and stronger protections for children and those being exploited. These conversations reflect a broader effort to strengthen dignity, safety, and social wellbeing throughout the city.
Restoring Water and Sanitation Services
Access to clean water remains one of the most urgent needs for many communities in Aleppo. In partnership with organizations including UNICEF, rehabilitation work on water and sanitation systems has recently been completed in several urban and rural areas, including the village of Jibrin.
These projects are helping improve public health conditions and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, particularly for children and vulnerable families. The work is part of wider humanitarian recovery efforts focused on restoring essential services and supporting long-term recovery.
